Veterans receive highest award a civilian can present for serving their country
It’s the highest award a civilian can present to a veteran in recognition of and thanks for their service to the country.
Saturday at least 24 Quilts of Valor were presented to local veterans at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Organizer Harvey Mayhill says he knows his efforts and those of others are appreciated.
“I’m just one bright light. It’s a team effort. So all the quilters and the others who support other events coming in the future get all of thank yous also.”
This year’s Quilts of Valor ceremony was also a welcome home celebration for our nation’s Vietnam veterans.
Mayhill says in the last 13 years, 140,000 quilts have been made and presented.
