5th District Congressman Mick Mulvaney says the biggest tax reform legislation since the Reagan administration has been introduced in the House.

Mulvaney said during this afternoon’s York County Regional Chamber legislative luncheon the comprehensive package would dramatically change the way the US does business.

“Start with the personal level – very simple.  We go from seven tax brackets to three.  I think it’s 6, 12-and-a-half and 25%, and that’s it.  We get rid of every single deduction except charity and the home interest deduction,”  Mulvaney said.

South Carolina Senator-Elect Wes Climer of Rock Hill says he’s very optimistic that there’s sufficient momentum and interest in fixing Senate rules so it can operate better.

“So that the Senate isn’t a place where optimism turns to pessimism.  So that the Senate can become a place where it’s no longer a graveyard of effective policy, but a place that can be transformative and innovative in delivering effective public policy that leads to a better quality of life for the people we’re there to serve,” Climer said.

Mike Fanning, who upset incumbent State Senator Creighton Coleman in the District 17 Democratic primary runoff Tuesday, also spoke today.
