Fort Mill Southern Bypass now open for vehicles following ribbon-cutting
The ribbon was officially cut Thursday on the Fort Mill Southern Bypass, a Pennies for Progress project that started in 2012.
The first phase of the highway stretches from Fort Mill Parkway to Doby’s Bridge Road and Holbrook Road.
The second phase connects Doby’s Bridge Road and Highway 160 near Springfield Parkway.
Drivers such as Indian Land’s Tonia Bolt can hardly contain their enthusiasm.
“We are super excited. We were coming home from Carowinds and turning right like we usually do and saw you were cutting the ribbon, so we turned around, did a u-turn and sat and waited. We were so excited, it’s going to cut off probably five minutes.”
Motorists are urged to pay special attention to new road signs and intersections on existing roadways.
Fort Mill police have already written a number of tickets to people who are not stopping at the new stop signs.
