Body of elderly man found in Lancaster County pond near Kershaw identified

The body of a man who disappeared on a private pond near Kershaw Monday night has been identified as 77-year-old Gerald Deaton of Lancaster.

Channel 9’s Greg Suskin reports that Deaton was found still partially in his john Boat, which was taking on water.

The Coroner’s office says it’s not clear if it was a drowning or a medical condition.

Deaton went fishing Monday and his family became concerned when he didn’t return.

Then they found debris from the boat on the water.

Deaton is being sent for an autopsy this morning, and his death is still under investigation.
