(Columbia, SC) – Forget what you see in the movies about pirates. A new exhibit at the State Museum in Columbia will show you pirates didn’t make someone walk a plank, and they didn’t say “arrrr.” The historically accurate “Pirates, Privateers and Buccaneers” will show you how pirates go back centuries and their crimes continue today. Museum curator Fritz Hamer says some swashbucklers were women and many, including Blackbeard, had a link to South Carolina. The exhibit runs through September 19th. Legislation to make adoptions faster and more efficient moved quickly and quietly through the state Senate last week.
