Chris Miller is General Sales Manager for OTS Media. He has come full circle in his career, coming back to where he got his start. Miller is a born and raised “Rock Hillian” as he graduated from both Northwestern High School and Winthrop University. He began working with Our Three Sons at the young age of 13 doing special events and running audio boards.
Miller’s experience includes time as an Account Executive with Citadel Broadcasting in Columbia, S.C. He then became the Marketing and NTR Director and a Senior Account Executive with Cox Radio in Greenville, S.C. After his time with Cox, Miller became the General Sales Manager for Cumulus Radio’s five-station cluster in Fayetteville, N.C.
Chris has completed the RAB Sales Training Academy and was named the “Top Gun” for the class, as the highest performing graduate. Chris is a graduate of “The Center for Sales Strategy’s,” Customer-Focused Selling, “The Marketing Pro,” and “The Agency Pro.” Chris’s philosophy: “There is no stronger power than local Radio at its roots. We influence thousands of people daily with our unique programming and ability to inform the community. This helps our advertisers grow by reaching a large and very loyal audience.”
In the August 26, 2013 edition of “Radio Ink” Magazine, Chris was named one of the top 30 people in radio, nationwide, under the age of 40. In 2010, Chris joined the OTS Silver Club for excellence in radio sales and in 2011 Chris became just the 10th member of the OTS “Gold Club” for excellence in radio sales. In 2012, Chris was named to the pinnacle of media sales with OTS as he became only the 5th member of the Platinum Club for excellence in radio sales, in doing so Chris reached the Platinum level quicker than anyone in the company’s nearly 70 year history.
In 2011, Chris, along with Comfort System’s Matt Sy, was awarded the 2011 Radio Commercial of the Year in South Carolina for the Comfort System’s Ad “Critters in the Crawlspace.”
Outside of sales for WRHI and Interstate 107, Chris handles play by play for high school football, basketball, and baseball. He also handles the radio play by play duties for Winthrop men’s basketball home games heard on the OTS Radio Stations. Miller can be heard on WRHI and Interstate 107 every morning as the Sports Anchor and is the host of the station group’s special sports events. Chris has been named South Carolina Statewide Sportscaster of the Year for a record breaking 4 years in a row (2010,2011,2012, 2013). In 2011 and 2013, Chris won a “Buzzie” from readers of The Herald as the Top Sportscaster in the area. In 2012, Chris along with Mario Washington and Andrew Kiel won the state’s 2012 Radio/Online convergence Award (2011 South Pointe State Championship Game). 2013 saw Chris bring home the same award, along with Andrew Kiel, for the Northwestern State Championship Game. Miller also was honored, again with Kiel, for WRHI.com as it was named statewide website of the year.
Miller also currently serves as an adjunct professor at Winthrop University, teaching Media Sales in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Chris is active in the community through a number of different boards and committees. He currently serves in the following positions: Rock Hill Area Chamber Council Board, York County Sports Hall of Fame Steering Committee, North Rock Hill Church Journey Group Leader, Boys and Girls Club of York County Board of Directors, Winthrop University Community Business Council, Northwestern Trojan Touchdown Club (President), Winthrop University Electronic Media Advisory Board, Winthrop Eagle Club, USC Gamecock Club and Leadership York County Class of 2011 Marketing Chair.
Prior to getting his start in sales, Miller got behind the microphone to do play by play for High School Football and Basketball. After graduating from Northwestern, Miller stayed close to home and attended Winthrop. While at Winthrop, Miller worked as Manager of the student Radio Station and Executive Producer of the Winthrop Close-Up television news program. He was active on campus through different organizations and was selected “Big Man on Campus” during his senior year and was a part of the 2004 Homecoming Court. At the conclusion of his Winthrop career, Miller received the “Most Outstanding Senior in Broadcasting Award”, which is annually given to the top Broadcasting senior.
Outside of work; Chris loves anything sports and is a fan of Gamecock football, Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Winthrop Eagles.
Chris and his lovely bride, Haven, have a toy poodle named Brinkley. The couple… and their puppy… live in Rock Hill.
