WRHI Unveils The 2nd Group Of 25 Of Its Top 75 High School Football Players

WRHI unveiled its 2nd group of members of its Top 75 players with 25 more names.  In addition, WRHI named 2 more its “legacy coaches” as former Northwestern Head Coach Jimmy Wallace and former Rock Hill High Coach Jim Ringer joined Walter Jenkins and Strait Herron (who were named legacy coaches last week)

Jim Ringer: Rock Hill Bearcats (1983-2004) After nearly two decades with no championship appearances, Ringer led the Bearcats back to statewide dominance with four state championship appearances. Rock Hill claimed statewide titles in 2002 & 2004 and were runners-up in 1990 & 1996. Overall Record 227-132 including a 197-96 record with the Bearcats. With Coach Wallace, initiated youth training aligned with high schools. Head Coach for 2002 Shrine Bowl & North/South Game. SC Coaches HOF 2010. York County Sports Hall of Fame 2005.

Jimmy “Moose” Wallace: Lewisville Lions (1983-1986) Northwestern Trojans (1987-2004 & 2007-2010) As a senior football player at Rock Hill High, Wallace was team captain, named Mr. Bearcat and elected class president. He claimed his first state championship as head coach at Lewisville in 1985. During 22 seasons as head coach at Northwestern, he made it to the state championship game seven times, winning titles in 1989, 1993 and 2010. Overall record 287-82 including a 237-61 record with the Trojans. Head Coach for Shrine Bowl & North/South Game, Finalist for 1997 National Coach of Year, Member of six Halls of Fame including SC Coaches HOF 2011. York County Sports Hall of Fame 2003.

Ernest “Chester” McCarter (1943-2014) York QB 1960-1962 (’63) – 1961 & 62 York HS MVP – Jersey #12 Retired,  All-Conference/All-State, York High HOF, York County Sports Hall of Fame/2002

 Bill “Mule Train” McQuirt (1941-2016) -Lancaster FB/LB 1955-1958 (’59) – 1958 Shrine Bowl, Outstanding Back Award, Clemson, ACC Freshman of Year 1959.

Gerald Dixon-Rock Hill LB 1982-1985 (’86) – 1987 Shrine Bowl, Mr. Bearcat, USC LB 1988-1992, All American, ACC Player of Year, NFL LB CLE/CIN/SD/OAK 1992-2001, York County Sports Hall of Fame/2003.

Leon Hope-York RB/DB 1968-1971 (’72) – 1971 Shrine Bowl, York High HOF, Clemson RB 1972–1975, 1st African American from YHS to receive an athletic scholarship.

 Jay Killen-York OL 1983-1986 (’87) – 1989 Shrine Bowl, York High HOF, USC 1987-1991, Team Captain 1991, All South, All Atlantic, All Independent, York County Sports Hall of Fame/2009.

 Ronnie McGill-Clover RB –  2000-2003, 2002 North-South MVP, North Carolina 2003-2006, 2x ALL-ACC selection. Player Scout for New England Patriots.

 Derek “Toot” Ross-Northwestern QB 1994-1997 (’98) – 1997 Shrine Bowl, 1997 State Runner Up, All-State, Ohio State DB 1998-2002, 2nd Team All Big 10, NFL DB DAL/ATL/MO/MIN/AZ 2002-2004, NFL Defensive Rookie of Year Runner-Up 2002.
