Fort Mill School District announces 2020 back to school plan

Elementary School students in the Fort Mill School District will be returning to the classroom in full to begin the 2020 school year. The students will follow the ‘family model,’ which keeps students in their homeroom to receive instruction. Meals will also be brought to students in the classroom.

Middle and High School students will be operating on an ‘A and B day’ schedule, which separates students by their last names. Doing so will lower the classroom sizes and allow teachers to have more individual interactions with their students. Students will not have direct contact with teachers on the days they are not at the school, but will be expected to complete independent learning assignments.

The Fort Mill Virtual Academy is available for families who do not wish to send their child back to school. The Academy will provide a more consistent curricular and instructional delivery model. Students will be assigned to a class or classes with dedicated Fort Mill School District teachers and with other students throughout the district. Registration for the Virtual Academy will be open July 10-15.

All Fort Mill Facilities and buses will be cleaned and sanitized before during and after school hours. Masks, shields or face coverings will be required for all employees during the school day and will be provided by the district if needed. The district strongly recommends students attending in-person learning to wear a mask or face covering to school.
