York County Councilman Bump Roddey has issued a letter to the Mayors of York County asking that they consider passing a mandatory mask ordinance as coronavirus cases rise in South Carolina.

According to County Attorney Michael Kendree a County Mask Ordinance would only cover the Unincorporated areas of the County and would not accomplish what Roddey intended to achieve.

Roddey says a mandatory mask ordinance would have to come from Mayors of the specific cities and towns in York County and he encourages those Mayors to look closely at the data in the decision making process.

He ended the letter by saying it is the responsibility of elected officials to look out for the public health and safety of all citizens among everything else. Greenville and Clemson, South Carolina are among the cities to enact a mandatory mask ordinance.
