Service details have been announced to honor the life of Haney Howell.  Howell’s Memorial Service will be held this Sunday, February 24th at the Whitton Auditorium in Carroll Hall on the campus of Winthrop University.

After the service light refreshments will be served in Johnson Hall where Haney is commemorated in the South Carolina Broadcasters Hall of Fame as a life member of SCBA.

Howell began his career as a CBS War correspondent during the Vietnam War, based in Cambodia. In the late 80’s Howell came to Winthrop to start the school’s broadcast journalism department and subsequently joined the WRHI news teams.

Howell worked at Winthrop until his retirement in 2012. That year he received the South Carolina Broadcaster’s Association’s Lifetime Achievement award and was inducted in the OTS Sports Wall of Fame in 2016.

Howell served as professor and advisor to current WRHI employee, Chris Miller, and multiple former station employees.
