South Pointe’s Strait Herron Named All-American Team Head Coach

Strait Herron, who won 102 games and 5 state championship as head coach at South Pointe, will serve as the East Head coach for the All-American Bowl on January 5th, 2019.  The All-American game is an invite only game for the top high school football players in the nation.  Herron, who was named the 2018 Army All-American National Coach of the Year in January, served as an assistant for the 2018 East team. South Pointe offensive coordinator Jason McManus will be joining Herron in San Antonio as Offensive Coordinator for the East team. The remainder of the coaching staff will be filled out by head coaches from around the nation.  The annual event will be broadcast nationally on NBC at 1p on January 5th, 2019.

Herron announced his retirement from South Pointe last Friday after the team’s double overtime playoff loss to Daniel.  The retirement is effective on January 1st, 2019.  Herron told WRHI that he has no future plans set in stone, but he does expect to be coaching next year.  Hear a sit-down with Coach Herron tomorrow night on the Red Zone (FM 107.1 7p Wednesday).
