Two York Co. figures pass away
Dr. Earnest Richard Archer who was 84 years old passed away Wednesday. The former Winthrop professor, Dr. Archer dropped out of high school and entered the Army at 17. He served in the Korean War. He later attended North Georgia College and State University, a military school, on the GI Bill. He studied humanities and ancient Greece. He later would become an industrial engineer, earn a doctorate in management and work for several major corporations, including Greensboro, N.C.-based textile company Burlington Industries. He is survived by his wife Sally and four sons. Visitation will be Friday from 6-7pm at Greene Northwest Chapel. Funeral will be at Woodland Methodist Church on Cherry Road at 11 on Saturday morning.
Bob Runde, two-term mayor and long-time volunteer in Tega Cay, has died. He served as mayor from 2002 to 2009. Runde also was a businessman and former owner of Grid Iron restaurant in Steele Creek. He served for many years on the City’s Parks & Recreation Committee and was part of the committee that hired the City’s first Parks & Recreation Director. This move allowed the City to start that department. He served the Tega Cay Lions with that same passion for decades. Mr. Runde is survived by his wife Ceil, sons Donald, David & Rob, and numerous grandchildren.
