1,040 to 979, a mere 61 votes was the margin by which District 3 York County Councilman Robert Winkler earned victory over his opponent Joe Cox. He is now on a 4 year council term.
Randy Ligon defeated Joe Tate in the Republican primary for the House seat in District 43, 1,475 votes to 1,090 votes. Ligon said he was proud of the job he did campaigning and his focus was to be personal with the people he interacted with. Ligon will face off against Democrat Tom Hawk for the District 43 seat in November.
James Smith received 60 percent of the vote in York County on the way to his Democratic gubernatorial primary victory.
In the Republican gubernatorial primary incumbent Henry McMaster will be in a runoff with John Warren. McMaster brought in 52 percent of the vote In York County while Catherine Templeton had 26 percent.
‘The County was 64 percent in favor of Mark Hammond for Secretary of State as he won the Republican primary and 58 percent of Archie Parnell in the 5th District Congressional Democratic Primary. Parnell will face off against current Congressman Ralph Norman in November, for the second consecutive year.
For Attorney General, Alan Wilson received 41 percent of the votes in York County while Todd Atwater brought in 38 percent. Those two candidates will partake in a runoff.
