Police have charged a Charlotte teen after they say a driver hit a Fort Mill school crossing guard Friday afternoon and fled the scene. Johnny Clifton IV, 19, has been charged with one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving minor injury.
Clifton is in custody at the Fort Mill Police Department and his bond has been set at $5,000, according to a statement from police spokesman Maj. Bryan Zachary Saturday.
The crossing guard was identified as Gary Tate, 58, of Charlotte, who was struck near the entrance of Fort Mill Middle School near Springfield Parkway.
Tate was transferred by ambulance to Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville, and has been discharged from the hospital.
