South Carolina’s 2018 legislative session is underway and unarguably the biggest item on the agenda is dealing with the two nuclear reactors abandoned last July at the VC Summer Plant.

South Carolina House of Representatives Majority Leader Gary Simrill said the legislature won’t approve or disapprove a deal with Dominion and SCANA or Nexterra and SCANA, but their role falls on the regulatory side.

Simrill said one of the better short term ideas is to have a private company come in and manage Santee Cooper and they remain vigilant in making sure they protect the state’s ratepayers.
