ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop’s women’s soccer team recorded its second shutout of the season with a 2-0 win over South Carolina State Tuesday night at Eagle Field.

The victory evens Winthrop’s record at 2-2 as the Eagles will now prepare for a Friday home game against Georgia Southern that is set to start at 7 p.m. on Eagle Field.

Winthrop won its fourth straight game over the Bulldogs and improves its all-time record to 11-2 and is now 6-1 all-time at home against SC State.

Freshman Keeley Leising started off the scoring for Winthrop in the 11thminute with a header into the net. Leising, who was selected the Big South Freshman of the Week, has now scored goals in the last three games. Freshman Clara Conboy scored the insurance goal in the 51stminute with a shot off a cross. It was her first goal as an Eagle.

Winthrop had 23 total shots with 11 of those being shots on goal. South Carolina State had only six shots with two of those were shots on goal. Winthrop goalkeeper Karly Gustafson finished the game with two saves and earned the shutout while SC State goalkeepers Katelyn Kern and Taylor Brittingham finished with an combined nine saves.
