ROCK HILL SC—The final Oracle/ITA Women’s Tennis Division I Rankings have the Winthrop Eagles 7th in the Carolina Region while the doubles team ofLauren Proctor and Mariana Humberg are ranked 71stin the nation.

Winthrop finished the season with a 20-6 record, a co-regular season Big South Conference Championship and the 2016 Big South Tournament Championship and bid to the NCAA Tournament where the Eagles fell to South Carolina while making the 14thappearance in program history.

“I’m very proud of the season we had this year,” said head coach Cid Carvalho, who completed his 30thseason at the helm.  “A conference regular season co-championship,  another conference tournament title, a tough 4-2 battle with South Carolina in the NCAAs, and another outstanding year in the classroom with an overall 3.75 team GPA made this a outstanding year. This is a very special group of players and I’ll miss those who graduated or won’t be returning.”

Proctor, a freshman from Bradenton, FL, and Humberg, a sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, combined at No. 1 doubles for an 18-6 record.  Proctor was also ranked the No. 17 singles player in the Carolina Region as she compiled an overall record of 22-4, including 21-4 at the No. 1 position, in route to earning Big South Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors.

As a team, Winthrop ranked among the top 75 teams in the nation heading into the Big South Conference tournament.  The final 10 top Carolina Region rankings were as follows:
