York County Council candidate favors at-large members
A Rock Hill businessman Wednesday announced he is running for an open York County Council seat this year.
Doug Meyer-Cuno is the president of Carolina Ingredients.
Meyer-Cuno says right now the council has only single-member districts that he calls a silo system.
“District 1 represents District 1” Meyer-Cuno said, “and the people in District 1 vote for the people in District 1 and all the way down the chain.”
“There’s no true need to support District 2 if you live in District 4 and vice-versa,” he added.
“And that’s simply a bankrupt model.”
Meyer-Cuno says that model needs to be changed.
He says there should be two or three at-large members on the council.
Meyer-Cuno is running for the District Two seat being vacated by Bruce Henderson, who has decided not to seek another term.
