Police: Craigslist robbery suspects were caught within 30 minutes
Rock Hill police have released new details surrounding Tuesday’s reported armed robbery of a man buying a phone off Craigslist.
The victim, a 33-year-old man from Fort Mill, told officers he drove to the Stonecrest Apartments off Riverview Road to buy an iPhone 6 for $250.
As he pulled in the complex, he sent a text message to the person selling the phone. Within seconds he had a gun to his head and, according to police, was told by one of the suspects, “This is a robbery.”
The suspects, later identified as Drakkar Griffin, 21, and Cameron Brown, 18, took off with the victim’s phone, his $250 and the iPhone he was going to buy, police said.
Officers were able to use a K-9 team and tracked the suspects to the Heather Square apartment complex, Rock Hill police spokesman Mark Bollinger said, and located them within 30 minutes.
The woman who answered the door told officers no one was home but after smelling marijuana, officers conducted a ‘protective sweep’ of the apartment, the police report stated.
Griffin and Brown were both arrested inside, as was the woman who answered the door. The two men face armed robbery, drug and weapons charges.
A third suspect that may also have been involved in the robbery has not yet been identified, Bollinger said.
