Appointments, a service bestowed only to members of congress, do not necessarily mean an applicant has been accepted to their respective institution of choice, but merely a nod of approval from the respective lawmaker.

“This is a tremendous honor and these young people represent the best and brightest South Carolina has to offer,” Mulvaney, of Indian Land, said. “I know they will represent the Fifth District with honor and I wish them the very best as they open a new and challenging chapter in their lives. I look forward to hosting a celebratory luncheon with the appointees and their families in June.””

Appointments to the U.S. Air Force Academy: Caitlin Bowman, Clover High School; Noah White, Thomas Sumter Academy.

Appointments to the U.S. Naval Academy: Kayla Chappell, Thomas Sumter Academy; Zachary Piedt, Fort Mill High School; John Slavens and Nicholas “Brady” Watson, both of Clover High School, accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy.

Appointments to the U.S. Military Academy: Derrick Engram, Camden High School; Daniel Rhinesmith, Sumter High School; Daniel Schell, Fort Mill High School.

Appointment to the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School: Jamar Williams, Crestwood High School.
