BELTON, SC–Winthrop sophomore Tremayne Mitchell had a standout performance in the 2014 South Carolina Men’s Collegiate Invitational which was held over the weekend in Belton, the home of the South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame.

Mitchell (Johannesburg, South Africa) captured one of the three singles bracket championships and one of the three doubles championships. He defeated Ben Horst of Furman, 7-6 (5), 6-4 to capture the Scarpa Singles Bracket and then teamed with junior Steven Patrick (Knoxville, TN) to win the Varn Doubles Bracket by knocking off Walker Heffron and Parks Thompson of Wofford, 8-7 (3).

Junior Michael Chen (Johnson City, TN) was also victorious in singles as he won the Cabri Singles Bracket by defeating Richafd Casagrande of Furman, 6-2, 6-1.

A total of 42 players from 10 colleges and universities participated in this year’s event. The different brackets were named in honor of former college coaches who have been inducted into the South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame.
