Clinton, SC-The Winthrop women’s soccer team closed its regular season and secured a place in the Big South Conference Tournament with a 4-1 win over Presbyterian College. The Lady Eagles finish the regular season with an overall record of 8-8-1, 4-5-1 in conference play while Presbyterian finishes 3-10-3 on the year and 0-7-3 in the Big South.

The Lady Eagles finish as the sixth seed in the Big South Conference Tournament and will travel to third seed High Point on Sunday. The time will be announced later this week.

Krystyna Freda opened the scoring for Winthrop in the 23rd minute, settling a pass from Tori Davis and ripping a shot from 20 yards out past goalkeeper Rachel Parks.

Freshman Anne Cushman got her first collegiate goal in the 33rd minute rocketing a one touch shot inside the 18 yard box past Parks to double the lead to 2-0.

The Blue Hose kept fighting and was awarded a penalty kick in the 51st minute but Hannah Gaither hit it off the crossbar. Gaither would bounce back and cut the lead in half just two minutes later, lofting a shot from outside the 18 over the head of Amelia Henderson.

Freda put Winthrop back up by two in the 60th minute, after Taylor Walton ran on to a long ball from Zoe Conover, passed it into the six yard box and Freda hit a one time low shot into the back of the net.
Freda almost got a hat trick in the 72nd minute but her free kick from 20 yards out hit the crossbar.

Henderson came up big in the 73rd minute when Kristen Peagler rocketed a shot from just six yards out but Henderson made a diving save to keep the ball out of the net.

Taylor Walton tacked on one more in the 81st minute, outrunning Presbyterian’s defense on a through ball down the center of the field from Freda, and converting the one on one with Parks.
The Blue Hose kept fighting, hitting the cross bar again in the 87th minute but could not come back from the three goal deficit
