It’s a year of firsts for new Rock Hill School District Three superintendent Kelly Pew.

Friday morning, a pep rally kicked of the new year for the district’s faculty and staff on the campus of South Pointe High School.

“It’s really about making sure that we impact in a positive way every student in the district,” Pew said. She started in Rock Hill May 1 after more than a decade in Oconee County schools. “We understand that they have differences but we’re here to prepare them no matter what grade they’re in. We want to make sure they are ready for the future.”

Also Friday, Jeanie Durham was named the district teacher of the year. Durham teaches eighth grade science at Richmond Drive Middle School. She earns an additional $1,500 from the district, $1,000 from the State Superintendent of Education and a $500 grant from the Rock Hill School District Foundation.

Durham also received the use of a new Honda from Honda Cars of Rock Hill.
