ROCK HILL, SC–Winthrop women’s golf coach Jodi Wendt has announced the 2014 fall schedule which includes appearances in five tournaments and features an October trip to Iowa and the annual Winthrop Intercollegiate in early November.
Winthrop will open the fall season in Greensboro, NC on Sept. 29-30 when the Eagles compete in the Proehlific Fall Classic hosted by UNC Greensboro. The following week on Oct. 4-5, Winthrop will travel to Iowa City, IA to play in the Diane Thomason Invitational that is hosted by the University of Iowa. The Eagles will play two more tournaments in October as they will tee it up in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate on Oct. 13-14 in Greenville, NC, and then participate in the Terrier Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford College on Oct. 20-21 in Spartanburg, SC.
The fall season will conclude Nov. 1-2 with the Winthrop Intercollegiate which will be held at the Rock Hill Country Club. The spring schedule will be announced during the fall.
“I am very excited about our fall season. We have a very strong schedule of tournaments as we have added a Big Ten school tournament at the University of Iowa. I am anxious to see how we compete against some of the Midwest schools,” said Wendt. “I am also excited about the quality of this year’s team. We are returning some very talented veterans and adding two amazing freshmen. This group of ladies is going to be fun to watch.”
Wendt returns a veteran squad for 2014-15 as four seniors and two juniors are included on the roster of nine players. Leading the group of seniors are Jennifer Dilger (Palmdale, CA) and Viivi Nuorti (Vantaa, Finland).who competed in all nine tournaments last year. The two other seniors include Rachel Wyatt (Blythewood, SC) and Anna Jenkins (Rock Hill). The two juniors are Lucinda Walker (Lancashire, England) and Mary Barbero (Fairfax Station, VA). Louise Jeppesen (Vken, Sweden), who saw considerable action as a freshman, is the only sophomore on the roster while two talented freshmen will battle for a top five spot this season. They are Chandler Case (Rock Hill) and Ashley Sloup (pronounced Slope) from Southport, NC.
