Power restored to 600+ Rock Hill utilities customers

More than 600 City of Rock Hill utility customers’ power was restored Wednesday evening following a traffic collision and contractor’s gaffe.

Just after 12 noon, a single car struck a utility pole near the Winthrop Coliseum, knocking out power for about six hours. During the afternoon drive, city crews and police closed a portion of Cherry Road between Charlotte Avenue and Richmond Drive.

Cherry Road was reopened by 7 p.m.

Also Wednesday afternoon, a contractor hit a power line the Rock Hill-York County Airport,  cutting power to 24 power customers near the Airport Industrial Park.

Power to those customers was restored by 4 p.m.

Rock Hill Police Department spokesman Mark Bollinger said one adult victim and one infant were transported to Piedmont Medical Center following the incident near the Winthrop Coliseum.
