State Representative and democratic Lieutenant Governor candidate Bakari Sellers was in York County Wednesday on a tour visiting senior centers across the state.
Sellers’ tour comes with less than 100 days before the general election where he will face republican candidate Henry McMaster for the post housed in the State House opposite the governor’s wing.
While the post is largely ceremonial, Sellers said that if elected, he would use the influence that may come with the office to be a strong advocate for South Carolina’s seniors. The Lt. Governor is directly over the state Office on Aging, a position that Sellers said would leave him with plenty of room to serve the estimated 1.8 million seniors expected to call South Carolina home by 2030.
“This is race about what’s best for South Carolina,” Seller said. “It’s not red or blue.”
