Chester County could be on the brink of scoring another major employer to the area — with plans of adding another 250 jobs in Fort Lawn.
County Supervisor Carlisle Roddey said late Tuesday the company, dubbed ‘Project Witness,’ would bring approximately 250 jobs and $18 million in private investment.
The company is a manufacturing operation and is eying an existing facility in the Fort Lawn area, Roddey said, and would bring new life to an area hit hard by the demise of Springs Industries based in Fort Mill.
“It was like someone was cutting you and watching you bleed,” Roddey said, referring to the demise of the manufacturing market. “But we stopped the bleeding and are starting to go the other way.”
In addition to the expected jobs, Roddey said the company would help add to the Town of Fort Lawn’s tax base and help the municipally-owned sewer system. Roddey says the system’s financial health is suffering from a lack of demand.
The deal could close in as little as 60 days, Roddey said.
