Federal authorities the State Law Enforcement Division and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office drug unit tracked down a Lancaster County homeowner believed to be growing hundreds of marijuana plants.
Lancaster County deputies say Heyward Tolbert was arrested Thursday and charged with Trafficking Marijuana. At Tolbert’s Watermark Road home in Kershaw, helicopter surveillance captured around 40 marijuana plants growing on his property.
The marijuana was destroyed.
Tolbert admitted to deputies that the plants inside were his, but denied any knowledge of the 300 plants growing in the woods next door and in an outbuilding under a heat lamp.
“It is always a good thing when different agencies can work together for a common goal: to help eradicate drugs in our community,” Lancaster County sheriff Barry Faile said. “The fact that we were able to get over 300 marijuana plants off of the street is a testament to the hard work our Drug Task Force agents and the other agencies do every day.”
