D-Day Veterans receive big ‘welcome home’ in York County

More than two dozen D-Day Veterans coming home from a visit to Normandy, France for the 70th anniversary of the of the water-borne siege were welcomed home with a large flag atop several overpasses over I-77.  WRHI’s Manning Kimmel filed this report as the tour bus, given a police escort, rolled past Sutton Road.

Fire crews from the Fort Mil Fire Department, Riverview Fire Department, Rock Hill Fire Department and Lesslie Fire Department suspended large U.S. flags over the Interstate, while officers from the York County Sheriff’s Office, Rock Hill Police Department, Chester County Sheriff’s Office, Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office and Richland County Sheriff’s Department escorted the veterans to Columbia.
