The state Department of Health and Environmental Control says one person has been recommended to undergo post-exposure treatment after being exposed to rabies in the Fort Mill area by a fox that tested positive for the disease.

Sandra Craig of DHEC’s Bureau of Environmental Health Services says to reduce the risk of rabies, people should avoid wild animals acting tame and tame animals acting wild.

There have been 40 confirmed cases of animal rabies statewide this year, and six in York County.
