The group is an offshoot of the Municipal Association of South Carolina, a group that serves the interests and goal of local governments across the state.
The cadre of local officials toured city hall in Fort Mill and Manchester Meadows, the Giordana Velodrome, BMX track, Tennis Center and Cherry Park in Rock Hill. The focus for the day: Sports tourism.
“Everybody loved Manchester Meadows… they’ve just been really impressed with everything Rock Hill is doing to bolster sports tourism,” said Casey Fields, Manager for Municipal Advocacy for the Municipal Association.
Rock Hill Mayor Doug Echols led the city’s portion of the tour, while Fort Mill Mayor Danny Funderburk handled the town’s leg in the morning.
“Everybody has gotten something out of this trip: Large in scale, small in scale,” Fields said. “It’s good ideas to take home to their communities.”
