Two employees at the Resolute Forest Products were hospitalized Thursday afternoon with ash burns sustained at the Resolute Forest Products plant in York County, York County Emergency Management Director Cotton Howell confirmed.
One employee was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, a level one trauma center in Charlotte. The other victim was taken to Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
Howell had limited details on the incident, but said this particular incident was not like others in recent years at the plant, known to many as the former Bowater facility.
In 2013, the plant’s parent company was fined $33,250 by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration following the death of an employee and the serious injury of two others in January.
In 2012, four men were seriously burned in the plant’s pulping area by a substance known as “white liquor.”
