Winthrop Women’s Lacrosse Earns Six Big South All-Conference Honors

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winthrop women’s lacrosse team earned six All-Conference honors Monday as the Big South office announced its annual award winners.

Junior Jenna Kasmarik and sophomore Shannon Gallagher were both voted to the Big South All-Conference First Team. Junior Alyssa Blevins, sophomore Hayley Krause and freshman Paige Jenkins were each named to the All-Conference Second Team while sophomore Logan McCarthy was named to the All-Academic Team.

Kasmarik, an attacker from Suwanee, GA, has set the school and conference records in goals this season as she leads the Big South with 61 goals through the regular season. She is also currently ranked 17th in Division I in total goals scored.

Gallagher, a midfielder from Silver Spring, MD, earned First-Team All-Conference honors for the second year in a row. She is second on the team with 41. Gallagher has averaged five points per game through seven conference games this season. She also leads the team and is ninth in the conference in caused turnovers.

Blevins also earned her second All-Conference honor in as many years. She has been a strong force in the defense for the Eagles and has contributed to the team’s 87 percent success on clear attempts in Big South play.

Krause, a midfielder from Forest Hill, MD joins the All-Conference teams for her second time in two years. She continued to be a force in the circle on draw controls, leading the team, ranking second in the Big South and 31st in Division I.

Freshman Paige Jenkins from Glen Hills, PA, earned the Second Team All-Conference nod as a defender. She has also been a consistent presence for the Eagles, starting all seven conference games and 16 of 17 games for the Eagles overall this year. She is fifth on the team in ground balls.

Logan McCarthy was named to the Big South All-Academic Team. McCarthy, a midfielder from Annapolis, MD, is an Exercise Science major and sports a 3.340 grade point average. This season she has scored 17 goals and assisted on seven others. She has also picked up 16 ground balls.

The Eagles will begin their conference tournament play on Wednesday when they host the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at 2 p.m. at Eagle Field.
