MORGANTON, NC–The Winthrop women’s golf team finished third in the 36-hole Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate that wrapped up Monday afternoon at the Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club.
Winthrop opened the final round in fifth place after shooting 325 on Sunday, but made a strong push in the final 18 holes to close with at 303 and finished just one shot behind second place Western Carolina at 628. High Point claimed the tournament title in the 14-team field with a score of 610 (313-297).
Junior Jennifer Dilger had another top 10 finish as she tied for sixth place after carding a 10-over Par 154 (80-74). Junior Vivi Nuorti and senior Meagan Wallace tied for 11th after shooting 157s. Freshman Louise Jeppesen tied for 19th at 160 (83-77) while Anna Jenkins, a sophomore, tied for 25th place at 162 (83-79).
HPU’s Grier Bennett took home medalist honors after finishing at 6-over 150 (77-73).
The tournament marked the final tune-up for the Eagles before they compete in the Big South Conference Championships in two weeks at The Patriot at Grand Harbor near Ninety Six, SC.
