Following her inauguration March 28, Comstock changed her name to Jamie Comstock Williamson on Facebook. University officials declined to comment on the name change until today.
“Jamie Comstock has officially changed her name to Jamie Comstock Williamson. Her decision for the change was a personal one to honor her husband of 16 years, Larry Williamson,” university spokeswoman Judy Longshaw said.
“In your coverage of Winthrop, please use Jamie Comstock Williamson on first reference and then President Williamson, Dr. Williamson or Williamson on subsequent references, as appropriate.”
University officials did not immediately respond to requests on the expected cost of the name change. Numerous print pieces have been distributed since Williamson’s arrival last summer.
Williamson succeeded longtime president Anthony DiGiorgio, who retired from the university after 24 years. Williamson joined Winthrop as director of the Executive Leadership Group for the American Council on Education.
Williamson and her husband Larry live in the President’s house with their Chesapeake Retriever, Cocoa.
