ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop head men’s basketball coach Pat Kelsey announced today the addition of 6-5 wing Roderick Perkins, who will transfer to Winthrop from Erskine College.
Perkins, out of Smyrna, GA, is coming off an impressive sophomore season with the Flying Fleet as he averaged 24.9 points, which ranked second nationally at the NCAA Division II level. He was also ranked 14th nationally in three-point field goals made per game. Perkins will be required to red-shirt the 2014-15 season and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
During his two seasons at Erskine, Perkins scored 1,048 points as he had 16 20-point games and scored 30 or more nine times. This past season he was named to the Daktronics Southeast 1st Team All-Region. He also earned Conference Carolinas Player of the Week twice, was the Florida Tech Thanksgiving Tournament MVP and was the 2012-13 Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year.
