One of the greatest home run hitters of all time in Major League Baseball will throw out the ceremonial first pitch Friday when the Charlotte Knights play their first game in BB&T Ballpark uptown.

Jim Thome played for 22 years in the big leagues, finishing his career with 612 homers.

Thome played for the Knights in 1993, hitting an International League-leading .332 with 25 home runs and 102 RBI’s.

Many Atlanta Braves fans will remember Thome from the 1995 World Series, in which the Braves beat Thome’s Cleveland Indians in six games.
