Another inmate has died in custody at the York County Detention Center. Leonard Savercool, Jr., of Salisbury, N.C. died Sunday night while in custody.
Around 9:15 p.m., a detention center officer found Savercool laying in the floor of a housing unit, “unconscious and not breathing,” York County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Trent Faris said.
Savercool was booked into the York County Detention Center last Friday after police in Fort Mill charged him with petit larceny and entering premises after warning.
The York County Coroner’s Office is investigating the cause of Savercool’s death. The State Law Enforcement Division is also investigating the incident.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Savercool during this difficult time,” Faris said.
