MILWAUKEE, WI – The Winthrop lacrosse team struggled to get its offense going in the sub-freezing temperatures at Marquette Sunday as the Eagles fell 13-6.
With temperatures around 22 degrees at opening draw Sunday, Winthrop fell behind by four goals in the first seven minutes of the contest. Junior Jenna Kasmarik got the Eagles on the board with 18:07 on the clock. Winthrop couldn’t muster any more offense in the first half and went into the break, down 9-1.
Coming out in the second half, Marquette notched the first two goals before sophomore Krista Frowein scored her second of the season on an assist by Shannon Gallagher with 19:48 remaining.
Winthrop made a late charge, scoring four of the last five goals, but the deficit was too big to overcome. Gallagher had two of the last four with one each coming from freshman Sydney Cope and sophomore Abigail Blevins.
The Eagles will close out their non-conference schedule at home next Saturday, March 29 against the Jacksonville University Dolphins.
