Tuesday morning, state Emergency Management officials plan to activate a statewide test of the Emergency Alert System using a live scenario.
At approximately 9 a.m., a Tornado Warning will be manually triggered from Columbia. The warning will be relayed on radio, TV and cable systems across South Carolina as well as NOAA weather alert radios.
Due to the nature of using the live TOR (short for TORNADO) code, broadcasters and cable operators will automatically be preempted by the alert that should last about two minutes. No action is required on the part of the public, however emergency managers suggest reviewing tornado drill procedures before the test and revise if necessary.
Outdoor warning sirens in York County will not be activated, York County Emergency Management director Cotton Howell said.
