ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop softball team had a solid offensive outing Thursday afternoon, grabbing the final game of the three-game series against Charleston Southern 9-0 in five innings.
The Eagles evened their overall record at 12-12 and improved their conference record to 1-2. Charleston Southern fell to 13-14-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big South.
Winthrop put up five runs in the bottom of the first inning as the Eagles sent nine batters to the plate. Winthrop posted five hits with run scoring hits come with a single by Alex White, scoring one, a two-RBI single by Maddie Antone and an RBI double from Paige Haley.
The Eagles put up another four runs in the bottom of the third, again sending nine hitters to the box. Winthrop plated runs from hits by Zharne Glover, Megan Winningham and White with each recording RBI singles.
Charleston Southern threatened in the top of the fourth, but left two runners on base without scoring.
Sara Allen pitched all five innings, allowing just two hits, both coming in the fifth inning. Her record now stands at 4-5.
The Eagles will return to the field in non-conference competition against the Towson Tigers on Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
