bingo_hall_1By late Spring, high-stakes Bingo will make its return to Rock Hill.

Renovations are now underway at the former Bi-Lo in the Northeast Plaza shopping center to turn the former grocery store site into a Bingo hall for the Catawba Indian Nation.

Permits were approved for the tribe’s facility in February and construction started March 1.

“We’re getting a good response,” Catawba Indian Nation Chief Bill Harris said. “People are saying, ‘Please, when are you going to open?'”

The Catawbas have contracted with Bingo operator Catawba Bingo, LLC that will oversee gaming operations. Harris said the facility could be open in the next 90 days.

The tribe inked a deal with the shopping center’s owners back in December, across Cherry Road from where the tribe’s former Bingo hall inside the former Rock Hill Mall. The mall and Bingo hall closed in 2006 and was razed to make way for a new Super Bi-Lo that, later this year, will become a Publix.
