ronald_gregory_mugThe Rock Hill grandfather accused of killing his 9-year-old granddaughter and his wife before shooting himself was out of the hospital Thursday and he went before a judge.

Ronald Gregory, 67, appeared confused, and had what appeared to be minor injuries to his upper chest.

He has been in the hospital since the night police said he killed his wife Barbara Gregory, and granddaughter Mia Rodgers, a week ago.

Gregory walked in wearing a blue frock, instead of prison clothes. The judge said that’s because he’s on suicide watch.

He said little, but one very telling part of the hearing was when he asked for a public defender. The judge must then ask some routine questions about income and such.

The judge asked do you have a wife, and Gregory said “Yes.”  A few minutes later he told the judge that he didn’t have a wife, that she had “passed on” along with his granddaughter as well.

He thanked the judge, shook his hand, even with handcuffs on and was escorted back to jail.

A magistrate judge cannot set bond in a murder case, so technically his bond was denied.  At one point Gregory asked the judge “Where will I be?”

The judge told him he would be kept in jail for now. His first court appearance is now scheduled for June.
