ROCK HILL, SC–The Winthrop women’s basketball team, which is riding the wave of a season-best five-game winning streak, moved up to No. 22 in this week’s CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, marking the highest ranking in the program’s history.
Coach Kevin Cook’s squad has built an 18-6 overall record and stands one-half game ahead of High Point in first place of the Big South Conference standings with a 12-3 league mark.
Winthrop won its two games last week over Gardner-Webb (57-52) and UNC Asheville 62-55) to move up two spots in the poll from No. 24 where the Eagles were ranked for the past two weeks and once in early January.
Winthrop will put its streak on the line on Saturday when it hosts Radford at 1 p.m. in the Winthrop Coliseum. In their first meeting this year at Radford, the Eagles defeated the Lady Highlanders 68-56 without the services of 6-3 center Schaquilla Nunn, who missed the game with a sore knee.
