ROCK HILL, SC—The winter storm that hit our area over the past two days has affected several of Winthrop’s weekend athletic events.
The latest updates on scheduled athletic events for women’s and men’s basketball, baseball, lacrosse, softball, women’s tennis and women’s golf are as follows:
Women’s Basketball—the game against Radford is still on as scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Winthrop Coliseum.
Men’s Basketball—the game at Charleston Southern is still on as scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Baseball—the Friday afternoon season opener against Akron has been rescheduled as part of a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. A single game with Akron is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. If the Saturday games are not played, then attempts will be made to play a Sunday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
Lacrosse—the Friday night home opener against San Diego State has been postponed and attempts will be made to reschedule the game.
Softball—Winthrop’s games in the Auburn Invitational have been rescheduled as follows: Saturday at 12 noon vs. Loyola (Ill), and 8:30 p.m. vs. Western Illinois; Sunday at 2 p.m. vs. Marshall and 4 p.m. vs. Auburn.
Women’s Tennis—the Friday home match against Florida International has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Saturday’s matches in Johnson City, TN against East Tennessee and Middle Tennessee have been cancelled.
Women’s Golf—the Amelia Island Collegiate tournament is still on a scheduled beginning with Sunday’s practice round.
