ROCK HILL, SC–Winthrop’s Erica Williams has been named the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week for the third straight week and the seventh time on the season, joining former High Point standout Cheyenne Parker for the most honors in league history.
Williams (Rex, GA), a 5-10 forward, received this week’s honor based on her performance last Saturday against Radford in which she scored a game-high 18 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, connected on seven of 12 field goals and converted four of five free throws to help lead Winthrop to a 57-40 victory, the team’s sixth straight.
The double-double gives her eight on the season and four in the past six weeks. Williams has reached double figures in 20 of Winthrop’s 25 games this season. She currently averages 15.4 points and 8.2 rebounds while connecting on 51 percent from the floor.
Williams now has two more weeks remaining in the regular season to pass Parker as the most honored freshman in conference history.
