York County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a ninth grade student at Rock Hill High School in connection with Tuesday morning’s fire in a bathroom on campus.
District spokeswoman Elaine Baker confirmed Wednesday afternoon a freshman student was escorted off campus earlier in the day.
The student’s name nor his explanation for why he said he started the fire were not released. Baker said releasing the motivation behind the fire would have identified the student.
Portions of the school’s campus were evacuated Tuesday following the fire in a bathroom toilet paper dispenser. No injuries were reported during the incident.
