The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has now taken over the investigation into an officer-involved shooting in northern York County.
York County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Trent Faris said the incident occurred near U.S. 321 north of Clover around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
The suspect was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center with an unspecified number of gunshot wounds. The suspect’s name was not released.
The deputy involved in the incident, Terrance Knox, was not hurt, Faris said. Knox, 24,was hired by the York County Sheriff’s office three years ago and regularly patrols the Clover portions of York County.
The shooting occurred as a result of a traffic stop, but details of what prompted the use of lethal force remain unclear.
