With formal filing deadlines still months away, a majority of York County Council members say they plan to run for office again this year.

All but one incumbent, District 5 councilman Curwood Chappell, confirmed to WRHI their plans to seek office again this fall. Terms on county council are for two years and all seven seats are up for election at the same time.

Chappell refused to answer our reporter’s question about his intentions.

Should 85-year-old Chappell run again, he will face at least two challengers in the GOP primary in June. Town of Fort Mill planning director Marty Taylor and healthcare executive Robert Walker have announced intentions to challenge Chappell for the District 5 seat.

Gary Williams, who lost in the general election to council chairman Britt Blackwell in 2012, said Wednesday he has no intentions to again for the District 6 seat.

Filing for the county council races opens at 12 noon on March 16 and closes on March 30.
