Classes at Winthrop University after 5 p.m. have been cancelled tonight, following a campus-wide power outage.

At 4:10 p.m. Thursday, university spokeswoman Judy Longshaw said an emergency message was about to be sent to students, faculty and staff noting the cancellations.

Longshaw could not immediately specify what caused the outage. Various twitter reports from the campus newspaper, The Johnsonian, indicate outages are towards the center of campus.

Winthrop University, while within Rock Hill city limits, is served by Duke Energy. The City of Rock Hill is not reporting any power outages at this time.

Power was restored to campus just before 5 p.m. Thursday.

City of Rock Hill spokeswoman Katie Quinn said a contractor hit a Duke line on White Street near Family Trust Federal Credit Union.
